FAQ

What are beeswax wraps?

Beeswax wraps are cotton wraps coated in a beeswax blend that you can use in place of environmentally-unfriendly plastic wraps.

What are they made of?

The Kind Hive uses 100% organic cotton, certified organic Canadian beeswax (from the Okanagan!), natural food-grade tree rosin, and organic jojoba oil.

How do they work?

The beeswax infusion creates a nice sticky coating on the cotton. Using the warmth of your fingers along with some light pressure, you can mold the wraps to wrap your food or cover your bowl. The wrap simply adheres to itself and to other surfaces (e.g. glass) to create a seal.

What can they be used for?

Use them to store foods: wrap berries, cheese, fruits, or veggies for storage in the fridge. You can also cover dishes and jars. Wraps can be used to store dry snacks or baked goods. We do not recommend using these for meat, since fabric is porous.

While they have been made with food in mind, they can also be used for other things: wrap soap when you travel or wrap a fresh bouquet of flowers. Use your imagination!

How do I care for them?

Since beeswax melts, keep them away from heat sources. Washing in hot water will cause the beeswax coating to dissolve away from the wrap much more quickly than with cold water.

Hand-wash in cool water using a mild soap if needed. Simply allow the wrap to hang or lie flat to dry, and it will be ready for its next use!

Do not microwave or place in the dishwasher or washing machine. Store in a cool, dry place.

Like any item that comes in contact with food, please wash before first use.

How long do they last?

Depending on the amount of use, beeswax wraps can last for about one year. Normal signs of wear and tear include slight lightening and creasing along fold lines - don't worry, the wrap can still be used at this point!

What happens when they wear out?

It's a beautiful thing: something that doesn't last forever.

Eventually, the wrap will complete its circle of life and lose its stickiness. Don't trash it! Since they are all natural, they can be composted or will break down naturally in the landfill (just don't place it inside of a plastic bag!). They can also be used as fire-starters.
